Jews Finding Jesus
Even within the Jewish community, hearts are awakening to Jesus. An increasing number of Jews are encountering the Lord Jesus through miraculous means, leading them to search what their own Scriptures say about Him.
Jews follow the Old Testament, which Christians also accept as the word of God, along with the New Testament.
The Old Testament, as followed by the Jews is full of prophecies about Jesus. Jews are awaiting the Messiah, but many do not recognize that He is Jesus, and He has already fulfilled the prophecies of their promised Messiah.
Although many Jews do not accept Jesus as their Saviour, He continues to be mentioned in their pages.
Here are just a few of the many Old Testament verses that prophesy about Jesus. How obvious it is that Jesus is the Messiah the Jews have been waiting for!
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and will call him Emmanuel. (Emmanuel means ‘God with us,’ and Jesus was God with us)
Isaiah 52:13-53:12
He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. (‘stripes’ is referring to the lashes Jesus received from being whipped, before His crucifixion.)
Daniel 7:13–14
“In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. (The phrase “one like a son of man” describes someone that looked like a man, and it goes on to say that everyone worshiped Him i.e. Jesus)
Isaiah 9:6-7
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end.
Isaiah 53:1-6
Surely he took up our pain And bore our suffering, Yet we considered him punished by God, Stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The punishment that brought us peace was on him, And by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, Each of us has turned to our own way; And the Lord has laid on him The iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, Yet he did not open his mouth; He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So he did not open his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgression of my people he was punished. He was assigned a grave with the wicked, And with the rich in his death. Though he had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in his mouth. And though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, The will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. After he has suffered, He will see the light of life and be satisfied; By his knowledge he will justify many, And he will bear their iniquities.
Isaiah 53:12
He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors.
Psalm 78:1–2
“My people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old” (Then, in the New Testament, Matthew 13:34–35) “Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: ‘I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”
The Old Testament prophesied that blood would be shed for the forgiveness of sins. (Hebrews 9:22) ’Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.’ (Leviticus 17:11) “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” (Jesus completed the prophecy by offering Himself as the ultimate, perfectly sinless sacrifice. (Matthew 26:28) “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”)
There is a also a secret coded message in the Old Testament that prophesies the coming of Jesus Christ, and affirms that He is God Himself. The meanings of the names in the Old Testament’s first genealogy reveals this message; the names are in the exact same order, as listed in the Old Testament.
‘Adam’ => Man, ‘Seth’ => Appointed, ‘Enosh’ => Mortal, ‘Kenan’ => Sorrow, ‘Mahalalel’ => The Blessed God, ‘Jared’ => Shall come down, ‘Enoch’ => Teaching, ‘Methuselah’=> His death shall bring ‘Lamech’ => The Despairing, ‘Noah’ => Rest, or comfort.
Here it is all together:
Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His death shall bring (the) despairing comfort.
The prophecies go on and on, enough to fill many pages. These include the prophecy that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, and that He would be a miracle worker. The Messiah would die a sacrificial death, he would suffer and be killed for the sins of others, He would be betrayed by a friend for 30 pieces of silver. He would die among criminals, but be buried in the tomb of a rich man. Even the details of His suffering were prophesied, He would say certain words on the cross, the mockery He would endure, And people would gamble for his clothes. It was also prophesied that, through it all, none of His bones would be broken. It all happened exactly as prophesied by the all-knowing God of the Bible.
